Glass

The first big release of 2019 comes in the form of the third and seemingly final instalment of M. Night Shyamalan’s ‘Eastrail 177 Trilogy’. Anyone who was fortunate enough to witness 2017’s Split without having the ending scene ruined (unlike myself), would’ve bared witness to one of the most shocking reveals in cinematic history; that the film was a secret sequel to M. Night’s magnum opus, Unbreakable. Glass will finally bring together James McAvoy’s ‘The Horde’ and Bruce Willis’ ‘David Dunn’ and Glass will also provide the long awaited return of Samuel L. Jackson’s iconic ‘Mr Glass’ in what promises to be one of the most unique superhero movies of all time.

Lupita Nyong’o. Monkeypaw Productions.

Us

Fresh off a crazy year that saw him win an Academy Award for Best Screenplay Jordan Peele is back for another hair-raising horror starring Black Panther castmates, Lupita Nyong’o and Winston Duke, who’s summer vacation is disturbed by some uninvited guests. Peele said the story revolves around the idea that ‘we’re are our worst enemies.’

Tom Holland. Sony Pictures.

Spider-Man: Far From Home

It’s pretty safe to say that 2018 was a spectacular year (pun intended) for the web-slinger. With arguably the game of the year with Insomniac’s ‘Spider-Man’, a scene stealing performance in Avengers: Infinity War and the best animated movie since Toy Story 3; the Spider-Man hype train is at an all-time high. Despite his heartbreaking death in Infinity War, we all know his return from the grave is inevitable which has been essentially confirmed from the set-pics that have been leaked. However, the set pics have thankfully gave us our first glance at Spidey’s brand new stealth suit and our first peak at the first cinematic interpretation of iconic super villain, Mysterio who will be portrayed by Academy Award nominee, Jake Gyllenhaal.

Universal

John Wick: Chapter 3

Picking up from where Keanu Reeves’ titular character left off in ‘Chapter 2’ — murdering someone on Continental grounds. We expect to head on an adventure filled with brutality and visual magnificence as Reeves’ fights off former colleagues and counterparts. Also, John Wick rides a horse and who on Earth doesn’t want to see that?

Marvel Studios

Avengers: Endgame

2018’s Avengers: Infinity War was one of the most anticipated films of all time and it sure as hell delivered. Anthony & Joe Russo miraculously completed the near-impossible task of seamlessly bringing together these larger than life figures, that we have known and loved for the past 10 years, together on the big-screen for a truly once in a lifetime event. The films ending not only left the characters in a state of shock; but also shook its audience to their core. Thanos’ iconic snap has wiped out half of the MCU’s population and the majority of our beloved heroes leaving us with our original Avengers, who seem to be gearing up for one last rodeo. In what promises to be an emotional final ride for some, Avengers: Endgame is a must watch in 2019.

Sony Pictures

Once Upon A Time in Hollywood

Set against the Manson murders, Quentin Tarantino’s ninth film will take us behind the scenes of Hollywood in 1969. Starring some of present-day biggest Hollywood stars, such as Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, Margot Robbie, Dakota Fanning, and Al Pacino.

Warner Bros

Joker

Directed by Todd Phillips (The Hangover trilogy, War Dogs) and starring Joaquin Phoenix, this Joker origin story has no links to that of Jared Leto’s and aside from alluring photos posted by Phillips and the clip much hasn’t been revealed, consequently, raising expectations to boiling point.

Pixar Animation Studios

Toy Story 4

The Toy Story trilogy is possibly the greatest movie trilogy of all time with each entry being nothing short of a masterpiece. Toy Story 3 featured one of cinema’s greatest endings and it felt like the perfect goodbye to these toys that we seemingly grew up with. So when Pixar announced a Toy Story 4, many eyebrows were, understandably, raised. However, this is the studio that has brought us Monsters Inc, The Incredibles 1 & 2, Finding Nemo and countless other animated classics so I think us audience members can relax and have a some faith in Pixar and just let them do what they do best.

Marvel Studios

Captain Marvel

2019’s first blockbuster and superhero film will be Marvel’s 21st film, Captain Marvel, starring Brie Larson as the titular character: Carol Danvers. We’ll be journeying into the past of the heroine’s life and (hopefully) find out how she’s connected to Avengers: Endgame.

Lucasfilm Ltd.

Star Wars: Episode 9

The latest cinematic entry into the episodic Star Wars saga is the currently untitled Star Wars: Episode 9. Coming right off the heels of the financial disaster that was Solo: Star Wars Story and being the first episodic edition since the extremely divisive The Last Jedi, Episode 9 is going to have to be a critical & financial hit for Disney otherwise the Star Wars brand isn’t going to be the household name it once was. However, J.J. Abrams is back at the helm this time which is great news for anyone who was a fan of the much more well-received, The Force Awakens. Also, with where The Last Jedi left off and with rumours of an overdue return to Tatooine on the horizon, Episode 9 has the potential to be great but as any true Star Wars fan knows… never get your hopes up.
