In a previous article, I wrote about 1980s comedies that did not age well. However, some films have stood the test of time. They find new audiences as parents and grandparents share the films they grew up watching with their children.

The 1980s were a golden age for comedy. Saturday Night Live was in a revival, and several of the stars went on to make classic films. Some great directors began to create cinematic classics.

The following films are still regarded as classics today. For many, they are films that can be watched over and over again. For others, they are a great source of film history and are still entertaining decades later.

Paramount

Airplane! (1980)

The film debut of directors Jerry and David Zucker, along with frequent collaborator Jim Abrahams, Airplane! was a shot-for-shot remake of the disaster film Airport 1975. However, where Airport was supposed to be a serious film, Airplane! is all comedy. It basically invented the modern parody film.
