Peaky Blinders is a critically acclaimed British period crime drama television series that premiered in 2013, and the last season was released on April 3rd, 2022.

The series follows the exploits of the Shelby crime family in Birmingham, England, in the aftermath of World War I.

It has gained a huge following over the years. I myself am a huge fan.

Despite its popularity, there are still some hidden stories, character connections, or symbolic elements in the show that many fans may have missed.

Let’s dig in to discover some of them. By orders of the Peaky Blinders:

1. Polly Gray and Grace Burgess

Polly Gray and Grace Burgess are two of the most important female characters in the show, but they have a deeper connection than we initially realize.

It is revealed in season 2 that Polly and Grace knew each other before Grace came to Birmingham. They were both members of a women’s suffrage movement and worked together to fight for women’s rights.

2. The significance of the black cat

Throughout the series, a black cat appears in several scenes, often crossing the path of Thomas Shelby.

This cat is believed to be a symbol of bad luck and is often associated with death. It is also thought to be a nod to the real-life Birmingham gang known as the Sabinis, who had a black cat as their emblem.

3. The significance of the Garrison pub

The Garrison pub is the main meeting place for the Peaky Blinders gang, and it holds significant importance in the show.

It is named after the real-life Garrison Lane in Birmingham, which was known for its criminal activity during the early 1900s.

Additionally, it’s where Thomas Shelby’s son is born.

4. The symbolism of the broken pocket watch

In the first episode of the series, Thomas Shelby is seen smashing a pocket watch that belonged to his father.

The broken pocket watch is believed to symbolize the Shelby family’s desire to break free from their past and move forward with their criminal activities.

5. Thomas Shelby and Alfie Solomons

Thomas Shelby and Alfie Solomons are two of the most charismatic characters in the show, and their scenes together are always electric.

However, their relationship goes beyond just being rivals. It is revealed in season 4 that Thomas and Alfie are actually old friends. They grew up together in the same neighborhood and have a deep understanding of each other.

6. Arthur Shelby and Linda Shelby’s Family

Linda Shelby’s family is not well-liked by the rest of the Shelby family. In season 5, it is revealed that Linda’s father is a former police officer who has a grudge against the Shelbys.

This tension creates conflict between Arthur and Linda, as he is unwilling to let her family’s actions go unpunished.

As you probably all know, there won’t be a season 7 of Peaky Blinders. However, we can all get excited because the story will continue in another form, most probably a movie. Can’t wait!
