The thrilling action TV series The Night Agent was watched at a whopping 812.1 million hours worldwide, the equivalent of nearly 100,000 years!
Netflix released the report via its first-ever What We Watched engagement report, and the news doesn't come as a surprise because boy! This was such a good show!
The Night Agent was an intense, engaging, refreshing, and exhilarating political action thriller that certainly kept viewers on the edge of their seats from start to finish. Predictable the storyline was, but it was intricately woven with very appealing lead characters executing their roles in a myriad of ways similar to Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan's.
Gabriel Basso, with his impressive looks and physicality, was the standout talented actor who injected life and a captivating performance into his character as White House agent Peter Sutherland. Luciane Buchanan, as Rose Larkin, was beautiful and complemented Peter in her own unique way, like Bonnie would Clyde.
Where necessary, Rose Larkin was an emotional emblem of support for Peter but otherwise, gave him fraught moments that'd easily pull out the hairs on his fury chest.
She might not have been Jack Ryan's James Greer, but the savvy, finger-laced tech expert Hong Chau playing the emotionally-conflicted role of White House Chief Of Staff Diane Farr stole the show.
Diane Farr was the breath of fresh air The Night Agent needed in a stormy world of chaos and chasmic violence. Hong Chau might not need an introduction to playing thrilling and complicated supporting characters as she executed her Oscar-nominating role perfectly in The Whale, but she seemed so genuine in this visually stunning Netflix cracker.
Genuine as a mother figure and role model in Peter's life but back-stabbing like the iconic Lily Salvatore from The Vampire Diaries. Her one-liners, their perfect inundations, and synchronizations to be delivered at the exact moment were just a piece of art.
No wonder Netflix easily renewed the show for a second season less than a week after its release on March 29.
The Night Agent toppled Jenny Ortega's global phenomenon Wednesday to become 2023's most popular show by a mile. Not even the second show on the list came anywhere near, trailing by nearly 150,000 hours.
The second season of Ginny & Georgia came second on the list of 2023's Most Popular Shows, garnering 665.1 million hours, exactly 147,000 hours behind The Night Agent.
K-pop psychological drama series The Glory came third with 662.8 million hours, followed by Jenny Ortega's The Addams Family spinoff Wednesday at 507.7 million hours.
'Wednesday' had the Most-Watched Premiere of 2022, racing past Max's 'Game Of Thrones' spinoff 'House Of The Dragon' and is currently the most watched English TV series of all time, surpassing 'Stranger Things' on Nettflix.
The heartwarming romance series Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story completed the Top Five Most Popular Shows of 2023 at 503 million hours. The Mother, starring Jennifer Lopez as the lead actor, was Netflix's most-watched movie of the year at 249.9 million hours and was ranked 14th on most-viewed Netflix content of the year.
Like 2023, viewers will hope that 2024 is an even better year with banging TV series and shows, and what other way to begin the new year but with the live-action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender!
