What if Dennis Reynolds Taught High School? But was Toned Down?
A.P. Bio was a short-lived show with a lot of laughs
Glenn Howerton is probably best known for his character Dennis Reynolds on It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. The hit FX show follows Dennis and his friends who own a bar in Philadelphia as they scheme and screw over everyone around them (including each other). The characters are the worst kind of people, but it is one of the funniest television shows.
Howerton plays Dennis as a narcissist who is obsessed with his self-image. His fragile ego often gets him and his friends in trouble, and they rarely learn lessons.
When Howerton was announced as the lead of the 2018 NBC sitcom A.P. Bio, many wondered how he would play the character. Like many fans of his, I planned on seeing elements of Dennis in this new character, and Howerton delivered. However, since it was on network television, the character is a much more likeable person.
The show focuses on Jack Griffin, a disgraced Harvard philosophy professor who has to take a job in his hometown of Toledo, Ohio. He moved into his dead mother’s house and got a job teaching A.P. biology. However, it makes it clear to the students that he has no intention of teaching them biology. Instead, they will help him get revenge on his rival…
