The impact of Virtual Reality (VR) technology that helps an individual to share an experience they’re having with others is incredibly powerful. The literal action of seeing through someone else’s eyes with VR photography and videography also creates a new set of memories for the viewer who experiences what someone else has shared. And ultimately it can also drive someone to shape their own actions and perspectives in a way that’s similar to someone who shared their experiences in a real-life way via virtual reality technology.

There’s no doubt that smartphones, VR, 3D VR cameras and AR glasses are among the most disruptive technologies that emerged in the last five years, reshaping how human experiences can be shared. But those are just the beginning of where VR can take us.

In my view as the CEO of LucidVR, the most impactful element of VR photography and videography is helping humans to connect with one another through shared experiences — sharing individual experiences “as though they were really there.” Imagine how any of us may respond to world events or to individuals around us who may seem very removed from our own everyday real lives, but that can suddenly seem up-close and personal through a truly shared experience of virtual reality. The impact of those who have lived in war zones, or with homelessness, poverty, a disability or any kind of limitation could be boundlessly experienced through a viewer who comes to know the situation through VR.

My own motivation and inspiration in this field is rooted in the vision of my startup. I work every day towards the larger goal of building products that will impact people’s lives beyond my existence. The top goals I ultimately aim to achieve through innovations in VR would be to give an individual with a disability the chance to experience riding a roller coaster again; give a parent who lost a child the opportunity to feel as though they are re-connected with their child through revisiting such experiences in 3D VR; and ultimately to build a social philanthropy-minded team who goes through good and bad times and continues to excel through all of them.

The New Year is literally around the corner, and so this is an exciting new time for humans to relate to and connect with each other in ways never experienced before. I am inspired by the potential of VR to catalyze amazing shared experiences and our responses as individuals and as a society based on the new perspectives being formed as a result — in 2017 and beyond.
