Fresh off the presses: Legendary Pictures just signed Justin Lin to develop the latest in a long line of toy-based film franchises, Hot Wheels.

We’re super excited to see what Justin Lin could do at the helm of a car-centric action franchise. This is a bold move by Legendary, as Lin is a director best known for Star Trek Beyond and the second season of True Detective. What if he’s no good at directing souped up cars accelerating or flying through the air? (As cars are known to do.)

But the world needs a blockbuster car film-franchise. Lord knows we’ve gone long enough without one. So here’s hoping that Lin finds his footing and figures out how to turn Hot Wheels into the next big thing.

I’d like to offer some suggestions as to possible sequel titles for the franchise that spawns from this sure-fire hit:

  • 2 Hot 2 Wheelie
  • Hot Wheels: Die-Cast Drift
  • Hot & Wheels
  • Hot Five
  • Hot Wheels 6
  • Wheels 7
  • Hot 8
  • Hotter and Wheelier?

Not sure after that, my brilliant ideas are kind of drying up after the eighth film.

But blockbuster titles and a great director aren’t the only things a franchise will need. The next step, and a very important one, is to find a great cast.

So the execs at Legendary better rev up the Diesel engines on those hot rods and find some actors who really Rock.

But what do you all think? Will this franchise be a success? Does the world really want to see muscular people drive cars around for nine or ten or eleven movies?
