Accessing a Router’s Admin page

I would like to showing you a little tip on how you can view and get access to a router admin page. This post is for general educative purposes, try not to practice on networks that would put you into trouble.

Before we begin, a quick briefing on networking:

· In networking we have five classes of IP address (a, b, c, d, e). we also have ‘private and public IPs

· Where the PUBLIC IP type is used to connect to the ‘INTERNET’ Now we were taught that we have private IP and public IP, different between them is, the public IP is used to connect to the “internet” through a medium like a router, modem, etc. A router/modem has a private IP address that is being given to it by the service provider.

For example, I got a modem which allows 10 systems to connect to it, each of those systems is being given a public IP address by the router. Which is under a class C IP address classes. The IP looks something like this

Class A: Network . Host . Host . Host

Class B: Network . Network . Host . Host

Class C: Network . Network . Network . Host

Class D: is a Multicast

Class E: Research.

Focusing on Class C which is Public. ensure to follow the steps below:

Connect to a WIFI

cmd (on Windows OS)

‘Ipconfig’ (windows).

Locate the line that says ‘IPv4 address’ or ‘IP’ (on windows) would look similar to 192.168.8.123

Remember we said a class C IP address is of Public type (Network . Network . Network . Host )

The last 3 digits arethe host “which is our system”.

Type that IP eg. “192.168.8.1” in your browser. it will take you down to the router home or login page.

For you to login a popular login details would be “username: Admin Password: admin” am not saying this the password but the default password for routers. Most people now don’t event change the password or username.
