Money in Politics: California’s Presidential Primary

Nearly $40 million was spent by candidates and super PACs in an effort to win today’s Democratic and Republican presidential primary in California.

Of that total, $22,628,648 was spent by super PACs with Bernie Sanders leading all candidates in super PAC expenditures supporting his campaign — $10,824,728.

Sanders also leads in candidate spending with at least $8,433,582 spent by his campaign compared to Hillary Clinton’s $6,911,211 and $1,976,507 from Donald Trump.

In the final 90 days of the California primary, Sanders again leads all candidates in spending with $3,678,942 compared to Clinton’s $1,774,410 and Trump’s $584,671.
