For one, there’s been a surge in Canadian Content Creators — Just last year, there were over 150+ productions, contributing $400M to the BC economy alone. American productions added another $3 billion by flocking north to take advantage of stellar crews, resources, locations and of course, our weaker Canadian dollar which allows them to stretch their budget in ways that they couldn’t match on their home turf. But the final stone in Canada’s Infinity Gauntlet is our federal and provincial tax credits. To receive the federal credit, Content Creators need to prove that the cast and crew they are hiring are indeed Canadian citizens and residents. To verify, they collect something called the Declaration of Citizenship or Permanent Resident Form.

In the past, Content Creators have created Start Packs which contain a series of paper documents that the production requires from each talent they hire to process legal, payroll and tax credits. It usually contains a deal memo, company policies and NDAs, a union contract, payroll start slip, and federal/provincial residency declaration forms. Talent also needs to provide additional proof of residency and payroll docs (like TD1 and Certificates of Incorporation). It’s quite cumbersome for an industry where it’s common that talent work for numerous employers each year. In 2017, there was a security guard that worked on 80 productions. That’s 80 start packs (or about 1500 sheets of paper) where this crew member had to provide the same details and documents – an unnecessary redundancy given today’s available tech. And quite unsustainable for an industry that prides itself on innovation.

So we developed a solution.

Using Circus, each cast and crew member can create their very own work profile which allows them to securely store essential production-related items including their proof of residency docs, their CAVCO ID, residency address and more.

When they get hired by Content Creators using the Circus platform, Circus is able to pull the encrypted data from their work profile and inject it into each document automatically which removes the issues of redundancies, errors and unauthorized changes. We’ll also pull the deal points (talent role, work dates) and production information (story title) from the production profile established by the Content Creator. The only thing left for talent to do is sign with their mobile device using their finger or by traditional means via desktop.

Here’s how we construct the Federal CAVCO Declaration of Citizenship or Permanent Resident Form:

This technique is currently being utilized for contracts on the Circus platform but we’re also developing the ability to pull data and inject onto other production documents such as payroll start slips, union contracts and region-specific (FIBC, OMDC, etc) residency declaration forms.

Get Started.

To utilize digital CAVCO docs now on your next production or to test it out, get started here (it’s free for a limited time).

When you set up your content, under the ‘Collect Intel’ section, just switch on ‘Enable Residency’ and checkmark ‘Collect CAVCO Residency Forms’. When you invite talent, you can choose who will receive the document to sign. When they do, we’ll generate a PDF and store them all onto the world’s most advanced crew list, in real-time.
