Michael Jordan and Clyde Drexler

Jordan is synonymous with Chicago, he won all his titles and MVPs there, but he was dangerously close to being drafted by the Portland Trailblazers. At the time Portland had Clyde Drexler and Jordan looked like the same type of player and having two of the same player doesn’t usually work out. Bowie seemed like the obvious pick with Hakeem being already taken and Bowie looked pretty promising, plus this was the era of big men which helped the case for Bowie. Of course, Bowie got injured and didn’t play much and never was the player he was supposed to be. Jordan and Drexler on paper already sounds like so much fun, plus Jordan was dominating from the moment he entered the league so imagine how many rings he would have if he had a supporting cast.

Chris Paul and Kobe Bryant

This one is pretty well known so I won’t spend too much time on it, but around December of 2011, the Lakers traded for Chris Paul and it just barely fell through as the NBA (who owned the New Orleans Hornets at the time) felt they weren’t getting anything worth while in return. This trade has haunted Lakers fans for years as a combination of Chris Paul and Kobe Bryant would have been destined for at least one championship. Kobe Bryant as most people know in 2013 Kobe tore his Achilles Tendon and things just went downhill from there. Who knows, if the Chris Paul trade goes through Kobe probably doesn’t have as much pressure and doesn’t get injured and has a much longer career.

Pete Maravich and Julius Erving

Pete Maravich was ahead of his time for when he played, he made very flashy passes and took very (sometimes unnecessarily) difficult shots. He wasn’t very liked for his time, he was the only one who was really doing these flashy plays and shots and it kind of stuck out (to some people) as a sort of sore thumb in the NBA. In 1972, Julius Erving wanted to switch from the ABA to the NBA, and at the time he was signed with the Virginia Squires, so he signs with the Atlanta Hawks just because he wanted to. Julius was just kind of hoping it would blow over but he ended up going to court and had to stay with the squires. So unfortunately we got robbed of one of the possibly flashiest and fun duos of all time.
