Citizen User Rescues 1-Year Old Boy from the Backseat of a Stolen Car

A 1-year old boy named Sincere Gilchrist was rescued by a Brooklyn hero Monday night, who used safety information from Citizen to recognize a car stolen with a child left all alone in the back-seat.

  • 7:22p — Citizen identifies vehicle as white Mitsubishi Outlander with a 1-year old boy in the backseat.
  • 7:23p — Incident is notified to 16,000 users in Crown Heights, Brooklyn with detailed description of vehicle.
  • 7:31p — Incident is further notified to 266,000 users in Brooklyn.
  • 8:29p — Citizen shares photo of child in stolen vehicle provided by NYPD.
  • Approximately 8:45p — A Citizen user notices a suspicious car in her neighborhood, confirms the stolen car with child, calls 911.
  • 9:04p — NYPD confirms over radio that the child has been located.

Citizen provided this information nearly an hour-and-a-half before the AMBER Alert hit nearby phones, providing the detailed information this Brooklyn hero needed to recognize the car and rescue the child.

“I can’t believe it. I was so happy that that little kid, that the baby was alive. ’Cause he was breathing and I was so, I was really happy, but I’m still in shock,” she told CBS New York.
