When Elizabeth Castillo received a Citizen notification about a missing person Saturday night, she did what she always does; she read the description thoroughly in hopes of helping her community of Ozone Park, Queens.

Notification received by Castillo

Castillo was still asleep when her husband left for work the next day. When they spoke later that morning, Castillo’s husband mentioned that he had seen an unfamiliar man who seemed confused sitting outside of their home.

“I looked outside to see if he was still there,” she said. “I quickly confirmed that the descriptions matched and called 911.”

She kept the Citizen community updated on the app, commenting: “My husband just saw one man with that description on 95th avenue and 96th street. He was cold and gave him a sweater. calling 911 now”

Police confirmed that they had been looking for the man, and he was taken to an area hospital shortly after Castillo called 911.

Citizen has led to many recoveries of missing persons over the past year, and we’re always eager to hear how people are using Citizen to keep their communities safe and informed. Please reach out with your own Citizen story to: support@citizen.com.
