Mission Moment: Citizen Agent Monitors Caller and Alerts Police to Theft in Progress

Last week in a blog post, we shared why live monitoring is one of Citizen Premium’s most used features. Each day, subscribers call or discreetly chat with Citizen Agents when they feel unsafe or need someone to watch their back. Occasionally agents must provide additional assistance when they detect signs of distress or danger.

Two weeks ago, a Citizen subscriber reported feeling uneasy inside of a hotel. He started a video call with a Citizen Agent, but would not state what exactly was making him feel anxious. The Citizen Agent carefully asked questions, and surveyed his surroundings and audio for clues about what was happening:

The subscriber appeared to be walking back and forth between two rooms. He appeared to be with a group of men. He seemed to grow increasingly wary, and repeatedly stated he had “nothing to do with” whatever they were doing. The Citizen Agent heard someone mention taking a television off the wall. The subscriber’s video suggested some suspicious activity was occurring.

Finally, the subscriber slipped outside and confirmed the others were trying to steal TVs from the hotel. He stated they might have weapons. After approximately 25 minutes of live monitoring, the Citizen Agent escalated the call to 911. As police were en route, the subscriber stayed safely across the street, away from the group.
