The NYPD has reported a significant milestone this weekend: from the morning of Friday 10/12 to the end of Sunday 10/14 of 2018, not a single person was reported to have been the victim of a violent gun shooting.

This is the first time since 1993 that there hasn’t been a shooting casualty over the course of an entire weekend in New York City, an occasion Mayor Bill de Blasio and NYPD Chief of Department Terence Monahan were proud to announce Monday morning.

That’s not to say guns were not discharged over the weekend; Citizen users were alerted with safety notifications regarding at least 6 confirmed reports of gunshots in various locations in 5 Boroughs, but while police responded to all reported and unconfirmed incidents, Citizen can verify that none of these situations resulted in casualties.

Shooting violence has been steadily decreasing in the city, with 600 shootings across the city this year according to the NYPD, a 2% drop over the same time last year.

The Citizen App instantly sends safety alerts directly to your phone whenever significant crime or emergencies happen near you.

Congratulations to New York on this achievement—let’s keep up this positive trend and continue to protect the world!
