Celebrating #VolunteersWeek

Not everyone knows this but lots of local Citizens Advice offices rely on volunteers. The Citizens Advice network has one of the largest army of volunteers working day in, day out to support clients with the problems they face.

At Citizens Advice Stockport (CAS) we want to thank our volunteers for making a huge difference in people’s lives. CAS has 57 volunteers giving nearly 300 hours per week of their time to help people across Stockport find a solution to their problem.

Nationally, 23,000 Citizens Advice volunteers help provide support in 2,900 locations across England and Wales — helping 2.7 million people every year.

Volunteers Week runs every year between 1st -7th June. This year, the theme is volunteering for all.

At CAS we offer a wide range of voluntary roles including, advisers, research and campaigns workers, receptionists and trustees.

We think it is important to recognise the work of our volunteers during volunteers week, but we also recognise that it is also important to show how much they are valued throughout the year — this is why we have started a recognition scheme in Stockport.

The volunteer of the month is a new scheme led by Jake Morrison, our Volunteers, Learning and Campaigns Lead. He was keen to ensure we recognise the work our volunteers do, especially when they go over and above what is expected of them.

As a Senior Leadership Team, we have also written to each volunteer individually to thank them for the work they have done over their time with the organisation — just one of the many things we have planned for #VolunteersWeek.
