City Bureau is kicking off another year of community-centered reporting with our cohort of Spring 2019 Fellows. For the next 11 weeks, our reporters will be on the ground in South & West Side neighborhoods looking for your input. Follow us as we publish reports, host events and find other ways to inform, engage and equip our audience.

We’re also excited to continue our partnership with youth media group Yollocalli Arts Reach, and we’ll be co-hosting a special City Bureau episode of their Wattz Up! radio show on May 11.

Sarah Conway (team leader), Emeline Posner, Janaya Green and Camille Powell.

Sarah, Emeline, Janaya and Camille are looking into maternal and child health on Chicago’s West Side. Who is bringing innovative solutions to the table and where are the greatest gaps in health equity?

Jenny Casas (team leader), Irene Romulo, Juanpablo Ramirez and Malik Alim.

Jenny, Irene, Juanpablo and Malik are focusing on church properties in Pilsen. How have these spaces been used historically, what’s their place in development and gentrification in the neighborhood and what does the future look like for the communities who use them?

Kim Bellware (team leader), Demario Phipps-Smith, H Kapp-Klote and Sierra Council.

Kim, Demario, H and Sierra will examine development and community access issues as they relate to the Hyde Park and Woodlawn communities and the University of Chicago.

Max Herman (team leader), Caroline Olsen and Youngrae Kim.

Our inaugural photojournalism team! Max, Caroline and Youngrae are tackling separate photo stories related to community development, maternal health and environmental justice, as well as creating all visual journalism related to our stories this spring.
