Bellevue and PSE offer incentives for green buildings

As part of the City of Bellevue’s commitment to sustainability, City Hall features an expansive green roof — one of many features incentivized by PSE and the City.

Skype’s office in Palo Alto meets LEED-Silver. Yahoo’s office in Sunnyvale meets LEED-Gold. Twenty of Amazon’s buildings in Seattle meet various LEED standards, and its quest for a second headquarters gives heavy weight to sustainable development. Increasingly, technology companies — as well as firms in other industries, like business services and hospitality — are turning to green buildings as a major tool for recruitment and social responsibility.

The City of Bellevue wants to enable and support this type of innovation, and we are proud to join Puget Sound Energy in offering various incentives for green buildings. Bellevue’s newly-adopted downtown code includes density bonuses for green buildings certified under standards like LEED and Built Green, and these can be combined with PSE New Construction Incentives to help offset any additional costs for new green buildings.

These sustainable building practices increase the uniqueness and diversity of commercial space options in Bellevue, and certainly enhance the competitive environment for new technology and innovative companies. By enabling and supporting these types of projects, the City of Bellevue intends to ensure that downtown Bellevue — as well as other districts within the City — remain competitive sites for technology and innovative firms for years to come.
