It was a momentous week.

From the moment of the fatal crash in Paris that killed Princess Diana and her companions to her burial, there was unbelievable and unprecedented outpouring of grief and love for her by people around the world.

The show of emotions cut across geographic boundaries and cultural and religious divides. She was mourned by those whose lives she had touched and also by those who were touched by her work and by her zest for life. She was not a royal but she was regal beyond pageantry. Diana’s tragedy also brought forth another, less commendable, and paradoxical side of human nature.
