1. MIT has just announced a $1 billion plan to create a new college for AI

Author — Will Knight (Follow on Twitter) via MIT Technology Review

Whilst the headline is unintendedly humorous, no MIT has not just announced that they’re opening a college for parents to send their A.I off too to get them an education; instead its a college of computing dedicated to teaching students AI, Machine Learning and data science.

MIT seeks to strengthen its position as a key international player in the responsible and ethical evolution of technologies that are poised to fundamentally transform society.

Has America taken another leap forward and guaranteed its continuing dominance of the A.I. industry by taking a focus on the education of its future workforce?

2. Pepper the robot questioned by House of Commons select committee on AI

Author — Sky News

Pepper appearing in the UK House of Commons is odd to say the least, whilst its definitely a step forward in the acceptance of Robots and Artificial Intelligence within the UK, specifically the government and the promotion of much needed education in this sector.

However, its quite clear that the question and answers that were apparent within this session were pre-determined and instead it serves by grabbing the attention of the media by presenting this as the actual state of the technology which in actuality it damages the actual state of the technology by mis-representing it. Our current state of Artifical Intelligence is currently limited by what it can be programmed to do (generally speaking), and as such there is AI that is ‘smart’ enough to be able to communicate in a direct call-and-response manner as of yet.
