New CityGrows field type: Money

While it’s easy to use a simple number field to contain currency data, there really are differences between money and, well, everything else. Accounting for expenditures, budgets, and fees collected is a fundamental part of creating more transparency in government.

At CityGrows we knew that many of our client governments’ processes involve money — whether it’s payment of application fees, registration fees, fines, or taxes. And when processes don’t involve payments, they often involve reporting on funds spent or proposed budgets.

We implemented our new “money” field type this week to ensure that it’ll be clear to users and administrators on our platform when a question or data field involves money. We’ll be able to create currency-specific automatic visualizations, and this will allow easier auditing of data, too.

While public processes are free to use on CityGrows, we do charge a 2% fee (in addition to credit card transaction fees) for transactions paid through our platform.

Please let us know if there are other field types you’d like to see in our system!
