As we continue testing the PVP beta in CityStates: Medieval, the development team has been working hard behind the scenes. The last few days they have been focused on ironing out connection issues such as dropped games or games that fail to load.

Thankfully, as far as beta tests go we have been pretty happy overall with the experience and apart from a few obstacles such as the aforementioned which are either fixed or being worked on, things are looking promising for the team to complete these. allowing them to move on to improving other areas as taking on board player feedback and seeing what is feasible to introduce (some of which has already been done).

Updates:

We have released a new client which we recommend players update to. We have however encountered issues with users having programs such as Norton flagging the game as unsafe and removing core files which break the game. Unfortunately the only way around this on our end is to have Norton whitelist us which is not something that can be done in this moment.

We want to clarify that there is nothing inherently unsafe about the beta client files, this is just a precaution programs like these take when they encounter something they don’t recognise which is the case here.

This can be worked around on the user end by manually allowing firewalls/antivirus like these to accept the program in your own whitelist if you feel comfortable doing so.

Client Updates:

Bootable .exe now has CityStates icon in order to make it clearer.
Spectating games now shows player names in their team colour.
AI squads can no longer place multiple units on a single tile.

As mentioned there have been a number of improvements to the connection issues, these however are done on a server side level and are not client based.

Torneamentum de Magnus — Stage One Ending:

The first stage of our beta tournament is now approaching its end. The snapshot of the ranked ladder will be taken on Monday 24th 23:59 GMT.

The top 13 players (excluding FruitGuru) will be invited to participate in the next round in which they will be matched up against their opponents and play a best out of three with the winner moving onto the next stage.

If you qualify for this, FruitGuru will reach out to you with your match details and it will be down to you and your opponent to agree on a suitable time to play within the 24 hour window. As previously mentioned, if two players cannot come to an agreement, we will decide on a ruling depending on the situation. A separate article with more details will be published later.

The battle so far has been fierce with some players already making a name for themselves on the battlefield. It’s been great fun to watch and we are excited to see what happens next!

The ranked ladder itself will remain active till the end of the beta but after the snapshot, it will serve purely for flex/bragging rights.
