Trivia: Origin of “Tagaytay”

No records can be found to claim how Tagaytay has been given it’s name, but instead a legend up until now is believed to have been the origin of the word “Tagaytay”. A story about a father and son who were out for a wild boar hunt, when it started chasing them and attacked them. This was when the boy shouted “TAGA” which means “to cut” and “ITAY” which means “Father” to his father, and by putting these two together we come up with “TAGA-ITAY”.

It’s quite interesting at how the name of the Tagaytay actually started from this legend, regardless if it’s the real deal or not since there’s no harm in believing.

Lungsod ng Tagaytay (The City of Tagaytay) is a third class city, located in the Province of Cavite on the island of Luzon.
