Most of the second-tier cities and above in China have adopted the plate recognition technology to help parking lot owners to better manage their parking lot. I have been living in New York for almost five years. The most of the fee-paying parking lot in New York either have someone stay at the entrance of the parking lot to collect parking fee, or you have to stop at the entrance to get a ticket and pay for it before you leave. If you are not a good driver, sometimes you stop too far from the ticket machine, then you have to get out of your car to get the ticket. What is worse is that people lose their tickets all the time. Then you have to pay an amount of fee that much higher than you suppose to pay. All this annoying situation can be solved by using license plate recognition technology.

License plate recognition technology uses machine learning to extract the information on the license plate, and record the enter time of the vehicle. When that vehicle leaves, it extract the information again, and calculate the parking duration and charge you accordingly. This technology helps parking lots run more efficiently, especially when the vehicle flow is huge. Because each vehicle barely needs to stop when enters the parking lot. It has the similar principle to EZ Pass, which also makes vehicles pass the toll more efficiently.

In conclusion, I really think the big city like New York should replace their old-fashion parking lot system to the one I just mentioned above. I believe it will benefit both parking lot owners and drivers.
