The world’s older population continues to grow at an unprecedented rate, and most of those elders have chronic conditions that require frequent medical attention. Lively Home is a solution that can support the safe and independent living for seniors for high-risk senior while reducing costs.

Lively Home helps senior members with chronic conditions live at home more safely. The in-home sensors detect daily activities, such as monitoring sleeping, toileting, and kitchen routines. Then, the predictive analytics capabilities will aggregate and analyze activity data trends and, when changes in patterns occur, that could indicate emerging health conditions. Alerted to these changes, case managers can intervene proactively and early to prevent avoidable high-cost care, such as ER visits and hospitalizations. Overall, Lively Home’s remote home monitoring system can track and communicate activity data to caregivers, generating actionable insights through predictive analytics.

A recent study confirmed that Lively Home has reduced hospital visits by 27%, ER costs by 39%, and long-term care expenses by 68%, overall the health plan saved $687 per member per month, a 16% reduction in cost of care. (Finch, Griffin & Pacala, 2017). Personally, I think one of the obstacles to applying this system is privacy consideration, which is, people may be afraid of monitored by others and feel unsafe. In addition, how to form a comprehensive mapping of activities rather than just from sole detection is also worth to consider.
