Remix’s New Mobility Platform Helps Cities Run Scooter Data
Electric scooter sharing system has been growing its popularity in past one year. One of the hardest obstacles companies encounter is to get support and permit from cities. Companies like Bird and Lime now are actively engaging with city agencies to facilitate the process of making this system work on street. They coordinate with city agencies to monitor and manage scooters based on their conditions and whereabouts, but cities are still cautious about the adoption of this new form of transportation.
This month, Remix, a technology company specializing in public transportation solutions, launches first platform to help cities manage new mobility and design multimodal streets. This platform enables cities to see the locations of every scooter placed on the street, and connect with the dataset of all scooters providers. What is more exciting is that it collects each trip data through the scooters and enable city agencies to analyze the pattern of rides and prioritize infrastructure investments accordingly.
This tool might solve many problems like unregulated parking, poor maintenance, and insufficient infrastructure. It also gives city agencies a comprehensive understanding of what is happening on street, and increase their confidence on embracing the new form of transportation such as scooters. In addition to the public sector, companies can benefit from the platform by knowing where to put their scooters and understanding their riders’ behavior patterns.
However, any form of data sharing comes with the concern of data privacy. City agencies need to obtain the access of all datasets that come from different scooter companies. Both cities and companies should collaborate to anonymize and protect the data from being abused.
