As smartphones gets smarter and smarter, people tend to become more reliant on it. We are spending more and more time on the smartphone. We use smartphones while eating, working, even walking on the street.

According to Hyundai Marine and Fire Insurance, an increasing number of pedestrians get into accidents because they are using smartphones. In order to improve this situation, a dutch town came up with a solution. They installed traffic lights on the ground so that pedestrians can still see the signal while they are using their phones.

I think this action will definitely have positive influence on protecting pedestrians. However, we still need to solve this problem fundamentally, which is to figure out a way to make pedestrians focus on the road when they are walking. I think we need to let people understand the potential risk of using smartphone while walking on the streets. When people realize how dangerous it is, they will make a habit of focusing on the road while walking.
