Signal 3: Landfill turned parks
There is an increase in Municipal solid waste every year all around the world by humankind and which is being dumped into the landfills which cause much major health and environmental impacts due to landfill fires, odor, and many more. I think we can use this large landfill area and turn them into parks for recreational purpose.
We should care about this because the landfill is one of the major causes of the pollution and health issues which has been generated into the communities all around the world. The landfill can contaminate groundwater, causes air pollution due to landfill fire, causes air pollution due to methane generation due to decomposition and leachate production causes health issues.
We should turn the landfill into the parks and simultaneously generating energy from methane. We can put a cap of polyester to restrict the creation of leachate and clay over a landfill on which we can grow plants and which can be used as a recreational facility for the community rather than causing problems. We can utilize the methane being generated from landfill and convert that into energy. There have been major landfills which have been converted to landfill such as freshkills in New York. Mt. Trashmore in Virginia and many more around the world
