Signal 5: Smart ways to improve water infrastructure.

With rapid urbanization and growing water scarcity from climate change, cities are being challenged to deliver water as efficiently as possible as well as balance rising demand with limited supplies and water is perhaps one of the most precious natural resources. Metropolitan Governments and water operators are continuously facing the ever-growing challenges of evaluating the risks and optimizing investment in the rehabilitation of the buried aging infrastructure of Water Distribution Systems. We should care about this as increase in cost in supplying water.

So, we should implement smart water management for problems like water leakage detection, watering management through sensors, drinking water quality monitoring, quality control of pools and water reserves, etc. which can be beneficial to the government and the public. So, we can do this via implanting IoT based water system which can analyze all the problems mentioned above and gives real-time data to the distributors which can be helpful in many ways.

We should implement Smart water management there many advantages of it as government can create extra revenue through cost savings as it can reduce cost due to real-time monitoring all operations which also results in higher productivity and increase in efficiency as we can make through real-time operational control to make smarter business decisions. We can optimize and can have a transparent asset utilization with minimum maintenance cost while improving safety & reliability of the asset. As per IBM research, we can eliminate breakdowns by up to 70%, reduce downtime by up to 50%, and reduce scheduled repairs by up to 12%.
