What should the government do to promote the development of autonomous vehicles?
The autonomous vehicles could bring a lot of changes in social life, less traffic congestion, safer city, and more intelligent life. However, there are still some technology hurdles prevent the development of the autonomous car and many people do not want to cede the control to that machine. The governments should take some actions to deal with this situation.
Nowadays, some states are rushing to enact loose permissive regulations in the hope of convincing high technology launch in their borders. However, as this technology is under developing, there are some fatal accidents may happen during the test. Those will make people lose faith in this technology and refuse to accept it into their life.
So, the government should make stricter policy for the test of the driverless car. They should ask the company to submit every detail of their experiment program, set legislation to restrict the overuse of private data in the driverless vehicles and encourage company opens their research process to win the trust of people. In this way, people will accept the fact that driverless car will be a part of future life step by step.
