Even before a driverless Uber vehicle struck and killed a pedestrian in Arizona, a lot of Americans said they were worried about the development of autonomous cars and would not ride in a driverless car if they had the opportunity. This situation not only shows general safety concerns but also shows a lack of trust in robotic decision-making. In fact, it is not rare for people to reject a new technology.

Many Americans worry about the driverless vehicles

There are several reasons why some people reject the driverless car. The first reason is that people do not want to cede control to a machine about the life-or-death situation. Second, some people worry about losing jobs as their positions replaced by autonomous cars. What’s more, people worried the privacy disclosure because there are too many personal data saved in those vehicles.

However, we should not allow those concerns hinder the development of the autonomous cars. The government should establish policies to restrict the overuse of personal data. And the company should do enough researches before put the driverless car into practical, which will win people’s trust in this new technology.
