Advert: Design Panel of Service Providers for Civic Tech Innovation Network (CTIN)

The Civic Tech Innovation Network (CTIN) secretariat hosted at Wits University in Johannesburg, is seeking applications from proficient African graphic designers, illustrators, 3D designers, animators and motion designers to join a panel of pre-selected design service providers who will be the preferred service providers to support CTIN on various projects throughout the coming year. The Panel will be pre-contracted on negotiated rates and terms, and then offered assignments on a task offer basis; respective designers on Panel will be able to accept task opportunities based on suitability and availability. The Panel is contracted for a 12-month period validity, renewable. Panellists are not guaranteed work assignments, although there will be a commitment to equity, and service conditions will apply.

Scope of Work

The selected panel of designers will form part of a network accessible to CTIN for design-related tasks, including the following projects but not limited to:

  • African Union Civic Tech Fund 2.0
  • Civic Tech Innovation Forum (CTIF) Conference
  • General design requirements as needed by the CTIN

About CTIN

CTIN operates as a Community of Practice (CoP) and action learning network, focusing on the intersection of technology and civic activism. As a platform, CTIN facilitates connections among practitioners, researchers, experts, and decision-makers in the field of civic tech across Africa, fostering learning, knowledge sharing, and collaboration. civictech.africa

Application/Proposal Submission

Interested parties are invited to submit a concise proposal as PDFs including:

  1. CV of the designer(s)
  2. Portfolio of 3 samples of relevant work such as posters, reports, videos, websites, etc.
  3. List examples of previous clients, and at least 2 marked as References.
  4. Indication of rates usually chargeable
  5. Any additional information deemed relevant by the applicant.

Application Process

Applicants should submit their proposals via email to Frans Maluleke at frans.maluleke@wits.ac.za by the 17th of April 2024, 16h00.

Evaluation Criteria

Applications will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

  1. Demonstrated proficiency and creativity in design.
  2. Relevance and quality of the portfolio.
  3. Alignment of the applicant’s design style and services with the objectives of CTIN

Selection Process

A selection committee comprising CTIN representatives will review all submitted proposals. Shortlisted candidates may be invited for an interview or additional discussions to further assess their suitability for the panel. Selected candidates will then be engaged in negotiations about rates and contracting through Wits University. All information provided by applicants will be treated confidentially and used solely for the purpose of evaluating applications for the design panel selection.
