The Collaboration on International ICT Policy for East and Southern Africa (CIPESA) and Paradigm Initiative (PIN) are pleased to announce the 2020 edition of the Forum on Internet Freedom in Africa (FIFAfrica20) and to invite session proposals. This landmark event convenes a spectrum of stakeholders from across the internet governance and digital rights arenas in Africa and beyond to deliberate on gaps, concerns and opportunities for advancing privacy, free expression, non-discrimination and the free flow of information online. In light of the prevailing Covid-19 pandemic, FIFAfrica20 will adopt a hybrid approach which blends online and physical interactions.

Akro is a company dedicated to helping entrepreneurs turn ideas into businesses. The accelerator programme aims to get companies investment-ready and funded within five months of starting the programme. This is who can apply for this programme:

  • Businesses founded by South African passport holders.
  • Businesses that are at least 51% black-owned.
  • Businesses that were Either founded in a township, operating in a township or founders were born in a township.

The Hillary Rodham Clinton Global Challenges Programme, supported by Sky, aims to facilitate international cooperation to address urgent national and transnational challenges. This graduate scholarship seeks to develop the next generation of outstanding, forward-looking, real-world focused leaders in legal scholarship, activism and practice. The scholars will follow a one-year (12 months) Master of Arts degree in Global Challenges: Law, Policy and Practice; a degree programme that is based on experiential learning and includes a research project placement. Scholars will also benefit from a range of additional activities, including mentorship, guest speakers, visits and media training. Candidates accepted onto this master’s programme will receive a scholarship which covers the full tuition fee as well as a stipend of c.£15,000 to contribute towards their living costs.

Huawei has set aside US$1 million from the Shining Star Program as prize money for the contest. US$200,000 will be allocated for the following award winners in each region. The Huawei HMS App Innovation Contest aims to inspire global developers to leverage HMS open capabilities to create innovative apps, bringing smart life services to Huawei device users in 170+ countries and regions. The contest will be held in Europe, Asia Pacific, Middle East & Africa, Latin America, and China, respectively.

The Nestle MBA Scholarship is aimed at women from developing countries. The 2021 Nestle MBA Scholarship is now open to women candidates wanting to pursue a Masters in Business Administration in IMD in Switzerland.

The 2020 edition of the African Economic Conference will be held virtually from 8 to 10 December 2020. The theme of this year’s conference is “Africa beyond COVID-19: Accelerating towards inclusive sustainable development”. The conference will be an opportunity for academics and young researchers to present their solution-oriented research to policymakers and decision-makers. At the end of the conference, policy recommendations will be made on strengthening Africa’s response to emergencies, enhancing resilience, expediting recovery from shock, and building back better within the framework of the United Nations decade of action.

Reimagine Education invites tech start-ups, academic faculty from top institutions, Chief Innovation Officers, university leadership, teachers, and other stakeholders in the future of teaching and learning from all around the world to submit applications for its 2020 global conference and competition. Competition applicants need to submit evidence of innovative pedagogies that produce improved learning and/or employment outcomes for students. The winners of the competition will receive $50,000 in funding from the Reimagine Education Awards.

The Ibrahim Leadership Fellowships Program is looking to groom future African leaders, and further, deepen and grow its network on the continent. The Fellowship programme offers potential candidates the opportunity to work in executive offices of the AfDB (Abidjan), UNECA (Addis Ababa) or the ITC (Geneva). Candidates will earn a stipend of $100,000.
