The Open Society Initiative call for applications from Eastern Africa pro-democracy organizations
The Open Society Initiative for Eastern Africa (OSIEA) plays an active role in encouraging open, informed dialogue on issues of importance in Eastern Africa. Through a combination of grant-making, advocacy and convening power, OSIEA is able to support and amplify the voices of pro-democracy organizations and individuals in the region and to strengthen their capacity to hold their governments accountable. This includes efforts to defend and support rights activists and pro-democracy advocates who come under attack for their work.

Africa Check Health Fellow
Africa Check is offering a year-long fellowship, in partnership with Facebook, to deepen our health misinformation work. Over the past several months, our team has increasingly focused on debunking Covid-19 misinformation, and we want to expand our capacity to combat health misinformation and surface more reliable information to people.

COVID-19 GLOBAL SOUTH HEALTH AND LIVELIHOODS CHALLENGE
OpenIDEO is seeking innovative ideas for its COVID-19 Global South Health and Livelihoods Challenge that demonstrate a deep understanding of low- and middle-income families in urban areas in the Global South and of those who have been most impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The challenge of COVID-19 for low- and middle-income families in the urban Global South represents a confluence of many challenges in one. According to the IPI Global Observatory, the Global South has “the highest rates of COVID-19 in the world, a lack of adequate access to healthcare, and a large emerging middle class that is at risk of sliding back into poverty.

African Economic Conference 2020
The 2020 edition of the African Economic Conference will be held virtually from 8 to 10 December 2020. The theme of this year’s conference is “Africa beyond COVID-19: Accelerating towards inclusive sustainable development”. The conference will be an opportunity for academics and young researchers to present their solution-oriented research to policymakers and decision-makers. At the end of the conference, policy recommendations will be made on strengthening Africa’s response to emergencies, enhancing resilience, expediting recovery from shock, and building back better within the framework of the United Nations decade of action.

Reimagine Education Conference and Awards 2020
Reimagine Education invites tech start-ups, academic faculty from top institutions, Chief Innovation Officers, university leadership, teachers, and other stakeholders in the future of teaching and learning from all around the world to submit applications for its 2020 global conference and competition. Competition applicants need to submit evidence of innovative pedagogies that produce improved learning and/or employment outcomes for students. The winners of the competition will receive $50,000 in funding from the Reimagine Education Awards.

YOUTH LEADERSHIP & INNOVATION AWARD FOR MIGRATION
In conjunction with the Migration Youth Forum, this year the Global Forum on Migration and Development (GFMD) is launching a new space for young people to present their existing solutions to issues around migration and development: The Youth Leadership and Innovation Award for Migration.
The Award will showcase existing initiatives aiming to empower and improve the living conditions of young people on the move, led by youth at the XIII GFMD and receive support in their ongoing journey, with a two months mentorship program, seed funding for their initiative (TBC) and the chance to participate in the Youth Forum and be part of the GFMD process. Young entrepreneurs, leaders and youth-led start-ups and organizations are invited to apply.

Medical Robotics for Contagious Diseases Challenge 2020
There are robots disinfecting hospitals; automated systems supporting the testing of millions of people quickly and reliably; robots undertaking infection control and operating on patients; and robotic platforms delivering medical supplies and food to the most vulnerable. In the case of clinical care, areas of specific importance include disease prevention, diagnosis and screening, and patient care and disease management.
The COVID-19 pandemic offers a unique opportunity to galvanize medical robot technologies, as they play an increasingly major role in combating contagious diseases.
This new challenge is aimed at entries that could offer solutions as part of a multi-faceted response to this and future global pandemics.

The Facebook Fellowship
The Facebook Fellowship is a global program designed to encourage and support promising doctoral students who are engaged in innovative and relevant research in areas related to computer science and engineering at an accredited university.
The program is open to students in any year of their PhD study. We also encourage people of diverse backgrounds and experiences to apply, especially those from traditionally underrepresented minority groups. Applications are evaluated based on the strength of the student’s research statement, publication record, and recommendation letters.
Winners of the Fellowship are entitled to receive two years of paid tuition and fees, a $42,000 annual stipend to cover living and conference travel costs, a paid visit to Facebook headquarters for the annual Fellowship Summit, and various opportunities to engage with Facebook researchers.

DRIF21 Multi-Country Festival: Call for Session Proposals!
The Digital Rights and Inclusion Forum (DRIF) is pleased to invite session proposals for the 8th edition of the flagship program on digital rights and inclusion in Africa. It also welcomes session proposals for the virtual DRIF21 opening day. Sessions can be hosted by diverse groups of people including civil society organizations, policymakers, legal/policy experts, technology companies, academia, advocates, researchers and national human rights institutions. Sessions will cover DRIF21 and will be bilingual catering for a diverse range of participants. The objectives for DRIF21 are to create platforms for discussing key issues, to develop action plans for enhancing digital rights and inclusion in Africa and to build networks for future collaborations.
The Digital Rights and Inclusion Forum (DRIF) is an important platform where conversations on digital policy in Africa are shaped, policy directions debated and partnerships forged for action. It hosts diverse skills and capacities for enhancing digital rights and inclusion on the African continent and beyond. It is a Paradigm Initiative (PIN) flagship platform for communities of practice around privacy, affordable Internet, increasing women’s access to digital tools, Internet shutdowns, digital empowerment for underserved communities and similar themes.

Mo Ibrahim Leadership Fellowships Program 2021 for Emerging African Leaders
The Ibrahim Leadership Fellowships Program is looking to groom future African leaders, and further, deepen and grow its network on the continent. The Fellowship programme offers potential candidates the opportunity to work in executive offices of the AfDB (Abidjan), UNECA (Addis Ababa) or the ITC (Geneva). Candidates will earn a stipend of $100,000.
