The Africa Data Science Intensive
The Africa Data Science Intensive (DSI) program is a hands-on skills training data science course based on solving real-world problems.
Big Data, data science, machine learning and artificial intelligence are driving a revolution around the world as companies rush to take advantage of their data and turn it into a competitive advantage. However, there is a shortage of skilled data scientists and managers worldwide and this shortage is much worse in Africa. In this program, participants will master the data science process, from statistics and data wrangling to advanced topics like machine learning and data storytelling, by working on real projects.

BOOST UP start-up support programme
Are you a startup entrepreneur eager to learn how to better pitch your business and become more investable? Is your startup using technology to make a societal impact in Southern Africa? Are you based in Botswana, Namibia, South Africa, Tanzania, or Zambia? Then apply for BOOST UP 2020.
BOOST UP is a three-part startup support programme organised by the Connected Hubs network and the Southern Africa Innovation Support Programme (SAIS 2) in Botswana, Namibia, South Africa, Tanzania, and Zambia. BOOST UP targets startups that use technology to solve a societal challenge and are looking for skills that could help them articulate their business. The BOOST UP series comprises the Set Up online training events, Stand Up pitching competitions, and Scale-Up incubation programme.

Call for digital francophone African startups and SMEs
As part of this program launched by the AFD, the GCAF will select digital, francophone-based, early-stage startups and SMEs and will offer them two types of support:
- A free interest repayable advances for companies demonstrating a capacity for development.
- A venture building support, in the form of strategic, financial, technical, and operational advice and capacity building

Youth Innovators Competition and Design Bootcamp 2020 on COVID-19
The United Nations Commission for Africa and its partners are inviting youths from all walks of life to the first COVID-19 Innovation Competition and Design Bootcamp 2020, to be held virtually form 15–26 June 2020.
The Bootcamp will bring together a selected number of students from across the continent and their partners through the innovation competition. The Bootcamp will be organized through a major online platform, for promoting innovation and instilling entrepreneurial competencies and imparting technical skills that may not be taught at colleges and universities in Africa (e.g. coding mobile devices, rapid prototyping with 3D Printing etc). Students will work in teams to address common challenges, attend classes and access mentors and coaches.

Africa Innovation and Investment Forum 2020 — COVID-19 Innovation Challenge
The United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) and its partners are inviting researchers, firms, public and private development agencies, government leaders, innovators, youths and development partners to showcase their innovations at the first Africa Innovation and Investment Forum 2020 with a focus on COVID-19, from 15–19 June 2020.
The Innovation Challenge 2020 is open to all firms, individuals, research centres, innovation hubs, universities and institutes as well as government leaders and agencies and business leaders of all sizes and ages.

Mozilla’s Fix-The-Internet Incubator
Back in March, Mozilla put out a call for ideas to “fix-the-internet”. Now they are launching the v2: the Mozilla Builders Incubator.
They are looking to invest in people, projects, and technologies that shape the internet and have a positive impact without having to only worry about the bottom line. Firefox, Wikipedia, Wordpress, DuckDuckGo, Kickstarter, GitHub, Node.js, and Ethereum are some of our favourite examples of the internet at its best.

Sue Palminteri WildTech Reporting Fellowship
Mongabay.org offers an exciting fellowship opportunity. This opportunity primarily involves writing stories that cover conservation technology-related research for our affiliated news site — Mongabay.com. The fellow will have the opportunity to develop their writing skills and have their news stories be published on our renowned website which boasts over two million global readers every month. This is a part-time, six-month opportunity supported by a special fund created in the memory of Sue Palminteri.

Innovate Now Cohort 2.0
In response to the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic, we have gone virtual and expanded the theme of Innovate Now Cohort 2.0 to include mobile solutions that assist persons with disabilities with access to information and resources in times of emergency such as the unfolding COVID-19 pandemic.
Innovate Now cohort 2.0 will now be entirely online and accepted applicants can participate from anywhere.
THEMES-Mobile and AT:
Bridging the access gap to Assistive Products and Services using mobile technologies and Bridging access to information, services and resources for persons with disabilities in times of national and international difficulties such as a pandemic.

Microsoft AI for Health COVID-19 Grant
Given the urgency of the COVID-19 crisis, Microsoft is accepting requests in the AI for Health program for COVID-19 grant proposals from nonprofits, academia, and governments. This is a focused effort for COVID-19 grant requests only. We will accept grants until June 15th, 2020 or until further notice.
This grant program provides Azure cloud and High-Performance Computing capabilities. Our team of AI for Health data science experts, whose mission is to improve the health of people and communities worldwide, is also open to collaborations with COVID-19 researchers as they tackle this critical challenge. More broadly, Microsoft’s research scientists across the world, spanning computer science, biology, medicine, and public health, will also be available to provide advice and collaborate per mutual interest.

Fact-Checking Development Grant Program
Poynter’s International Fact-Checking Network is accepting applications for the Fact-Checking Development Grant Program. Organizations that have been regularly publishing non-partisan fact checks over the last three months can apply for this new grant.
The program is available for established fact-checking units that are pursuing projects around video production, tools development, audience building and new formats testing. Grantees will receive up to US$50,000 and have six months to develop their projects.

Global Good Fund Fellowship
The Global Good Fund Fellowship is for innovators, entrepreneurs, and leaders of positive social impact organizations. This program is for emerging leaders, entrepreneurs who are 40 or under, with diverse ethnic, religious, economic, geographic and gender experiences. Ideal entrepreneurs are in a leadership role and are dedicated full-time to their organization that’s over 1-year-old.

Open Society Foundations Civil Society Scholar Awards
The Scholarship Programs’ Civil Society Scholar Awards support doctoral students and university faculty to undertake academic projects that will enrich socially-engaged research and critical scholarship in their home country or region.
Civil Society Scholars are selected on the basis of their outstanding academic record as well as their active engagement with local communities, their potential to champion open society values in their home regions, and their ability strengthen critical scholarship and academic networks within their fields. Proposals may include international travel, but this is no longer required.
