The Civic Tech Innovation Network (CTIN) intends to sponsor about a dozen Peer-Learning Events (PLEs) around the country in 2019. These local or regional events are to enable more direct, peer-to-peer engagement for learning, exchange, support and more sustained interaction. We also welcome the use of a variety of engagement and “workshopping” methods which could contribute to learning more about what works in building effective communities of practice and/or social movements.

If you are keen to hold an event aimed at the civic tech community in your locality, we are keen to hear from you. Please fill in the simple application form here. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until the available funds are exhausted. Successful applicants will be notified within 3 weeks of application.

Our selection criteria will include: relevance of the proposed topic (and any indication of interest in the civic tech community); experience of applicant in organising events, including participating previously in the CTIN; location of event (we want to ensure that events take place in as many places as possible); clear intention of innovation planned in how the event will be delivered (we are keen on new methods others could learn from).

Grants of up to R8,000 per event are available. From each grant given, we are requesting the following based on event execution:

  • a short article/blog on one or more learnings from the event (approx 800 words)
  • a longer report of the proceedings of the event with photos
  • list of participants attending
  • recognition of CTIN in publicising of the event
