Vacancy: JAMLAB and Civic Tech Innovation Network Community Manager

Wits Journalism has established two new programmes along with its partners that seek to foster innovation and build communities of practice in journalism, media and civic tech. We are now looking to hire a community manager to work on these two major programmes based at the Tshimologong Digital Innovation precinct.

This is a position for a versatile, organised and self- motivated leader who can support an ambitious media, social and tech innovation programme.

The major responsibilities of the JAMLAB and CIVIC TECH Community Manager will be:

  • Co-ordinate all activities of the JAMLAB Accelerator and support up to six teams participating in the first accelerator programme in 2017 which starts in July.
  • Organise events at Tshimologong relevant to the JAMLAB and CIVIC TECH INNOVATION NETWORK learning communities
  • Help maintain online communities on social media working with our editors
  • Support organisations organise events in other parts of the country
  • Liase with Tshimologong events and community management team and contribute to the development of the Tshimologong community and precinct. The Community Manager will report to the JAMLAB Director.

Qualifications, skills and aptitudes of ideal candidate:

  • 3–5 experience of organising, leading or working in collaborative work environments, training programmes, event programmes or in positions where organisational and communication skills have been developed and demonstrated
  • A relevant degree from an accredited University
  • Excellent written and interpersonal as well as social media communication skills
  • Organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Some interest in innovation and innovation processes, start ups, media and/or tech
