In the last year, we’ve done many qualitative research programs for our customers from FinTech, Banking, Transportation and EdTech industries. Most of these programs were focused on gaining an in-depth understanding of customers and their behavior via a series CustDev of interviews.

What we’ve noticed is that running qualitative research programs is a complicated process full of chaos and uncertainty even in some well-staffed and established teams.

  • How to focus the qualitative research on critical things?
  • How to write a precise clear brief for researchers and interviewers?
  • How to define a segment of customers or users for the research sample
  • What are the respondent qualification criteria?
  • How to recruit respondents?
  • How to ask questions properly?
  • etc., etc.

All these questions are not new to us, so we suggested running workshops and preparing process frameworks and templates for internal teams. Later we started to work on our own universal templates to share them publically, for free and for a fee — PM Playbook was born.
