Chris’ Journey
Throughout Chris’ journey, that covers the span of the country, he explores an abounding amount of places, which are all able to speak for Chris’ personality and his choices. The painting is symbolic to Chris’ journey and his way of life.
The river, the most prominent object, represents Chris’ journey through the wild and through life. The wild potato plant, symbolizes Chris’ death and the end of his life journey. The Slab City welcome sign illustrates how even though Chris doesn’t want to be a part of society, where you have to conform to norms. But, he wants to have communication and maintain relationships.
The money fire signifies the beginning of Chris’ journey and that he didn’t want to live in a world with norms. The kayak indicates Chris’ rebellious nature and how he is willing to break the law just to experience a little fun. The bus expresses Chris’ destination and final resting place. Chris was able to feel at ease, even through the pain of starvation and freezing to death.
