As students wrapped up the school year across Surrey School District in Surrey, B.C., a subset of kids were hard at work making their communities stronger. They were hard at work on community projects AND had the unique experience to meet their dedicated Athlete Mentor in person.

All year, kids had learned from their mentor virtually, but now they were able to connect with them in real life and show them the great projects they were doing to better their community.

Shaw Communications generously supported community projects throughout Surrey.

There were 7 participating schools and approximately 2,500 students participating in the day, in addition to the amazing staff in Surrey Schools.

Olympians joined the fun!

Four Olympic Athlete Mentors joined the day too! Olympic gold medalist and Classroom Champions co-founder Steve Mesler, 2x Olympian Mimi Rahneva, 3x Olympian Gilmore Junio and Olympian Alysia Rissling.

These Olympic athlete mentors were able to chat with their mentees and help the students while they worked on their community impact project. Students planned and designed these projects to make a positive impact on the world around them. They focused on nature, neighbours, seniors, animals, new immigrants refugees and so much more.

Shaw was an integral partner, making sure teachers had the funds necessary to help students accomplish these projects.

Thank you, Shaw!
