Social and emotional learning skills can change the mindset and attitude of kids. Athlete mentors — like Carly — bring their mindset, journey and experience competing in elite sport to teach kids what it truly looks like to set goals, persevere and work toward your dreams.

Get to know Carly before you join us
Carly is a freestyle skier competing for Team USA. She competed in halfpipe at the 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing where she made it to the final round and finished 11th.
Carly grew up in Mammoth Lakes, CA where her parents introduced her to skiing at the age of three years old. When she was 12, she began competing in slopestyle, ski cross, and halfpipe events and after winning her age group was invited to compete at Nationals in Colorado. Carly’s love of competition skiing flourished that weekend and her goal to eventually compete in the Winter Olympics was set in stone.
In 2016, after winning Halfpipe Nationals, she was invited to join the US Ski Rookie Team and just a year later made the Professional Team. Carly has had seven knee surgeries over the course of her career, but that didn’t stop her from reaching her goal of competing in the Olympics. During her time rehabbing her injury, she completed a Bachelor’s Degree in Cognitive Psychology.
Submit student questions beforehand
So now you know a little bit about Carly and how she became an Olympian, but there is still so much more to learn from her. Invite your students to participate by submitting questions for Carly that may be asked during the chat!
