Multi-Tiered System of Support + Classroom Champions: Family partnership, reinforcement, and capacity building

Classroom Champions offers resources for back to school night, family engagement events and to share with families at home. Each of the eight monthly units has a video for families featuring a former Olympic, Paralympic or professional athlete who is also a parent talking about what the focus of the month is, why it is important for kids and how families can reinforce the learning at home. This is a lifeline for families to understand what their children are learning and to stand in their role as their children’s first teachers.

Each month’s theme and video can be shared with the community through principal and superintendent communications, celebrated in local publications, and demonstrated through the public display of students’ monthly challenge projects.

School and district-wide support for students’ social and emotional development

Continuity and stability are absolutely vital for kids. There’s also broad recognition that benefits are even greater when children experience SEL throughout their day, across home, school, and out-of-school time environments, and throughout developmental stages. When implemented holistically, with a coordinated, community-wide approach, SEL can build stronger communities.

Schools and districts can further and deepen the impact of Classroom Champions and the Athlete’s Mindset by socializing the language and practices across the campus, reinforcing skills through the family resources, inspiring the community through live chats with the Mentorship+ program, and deliberately cultivating the traits school or district’s “portrait of a graduate”.
