TELUS Friendly Future Foundation® has donated $20,000 to contribute towards Classroom Champions, a leading provider of Social and Emotional Learning programming across Canada. Classroom Champions will be able to serve over 400 more students in Calgary thanks to the Friendly Future Foundation’s support. That will go toward helping kids in the program learn how to set goals, how to deal with adversity and face challenges with confidence.

Aligning with the Friendly Future Foundation’s purpose and mission, kids across Calgary will learn the skills to bolster their mental health and build great relationships in our communities.

Classroom Champions bring Olympic and Paralympic athlete mentors virtually to classrooms and schools. These mentors take their athlete mindset and journey to teach kids vital Social and Emotional Learning skills, such as goal setting, perseverance, teamwork, managing emotions, leadership and more. This evidence-based curriculum and award-winning mentorship program has reached over 5 million kids across North America, and as the charity grows, it aims to provide the support and resources toward communities that need it most.

“We are really proud to be a recipient of this grant. Classroom Champions has an organizational goal to Mentor 1 Million Kids by 2025, and these resources will ensure we’re able to dedicate programming to schools and kids in Calgary communities,” said Steve Mesler, Olympic gold medalist and co-founder of Classroom Champions.

“We’ve heard from our charity partners about the challenges children in their community are facing,” says Shanan Spencer-Brown, Executive Director of TELUS Friendly Future Foundation. “We are honoured to be able to support Classroom Champions, with a donation of $20,000 from the TELUS Calgary Community Board. We are so appreciative of the work Classroom Champions is doing in their community, supporting kids, teachers and families. It makes sure kids learn the skills they need to truly thrive now and in the future.”
