Step 1: Create a Medium profile

A Medium publication will serve as the backbone of your portfolio. Learn how to create a publication so you can start writing stories to include in your portfolio.

Note: if your Medium account is new (within ~a week old), you may receive a message that publishing is restricted from your account.

To troubleshoot this problem, there are a few things you can try:

• Ensure your profile is complete (see Step 1)
• Read more stories on Medium
• Wait a few days (this is most likely to resolve the problem)
• Contact help@medium.com if you’ve tried all of the above and you’re still facing restrictions

Step 3: Writing Your First Story

Now that you’ve created your publication, it’s time to start adding content! In the following video, learn how to quickly write and format your first story.
