Why should you learn digital marketing as a developer?

If you have ever crafted something for the internet (Web app, website, mobile app, etc.), you probably found yourself once or more in a “marketing situation”. A marketing situation is when you really think that you’ve created something great, but unfortunately no one knows about it. Maybe it’s the coolest mobile game ever, maybe it can change the world, but no luck. It’s just standing still on the app stores or on a server somewhere. Your application will stand there, if you don’t market it my friend.
So what are you going to do in that kind of situation? You can try to market the application by yourself, but let’s be honest. It won’t be as effective if You don’t know digital marketing. You could also ask for professional help on sites like Upwork, PPH or Fiverr. That’s a great opportunity but it can be expensive if you have more than one applications. And you don’t have control over it. Maybe you could ask your neighbor’s sister, who’s just started to learn marketing in a university. But You know how that will go. So… Why don’t you learn digital marketing yourself?
Okay, fine. You’ve definitely want to learn it by now, so where you should look for some lessons or courses? You’re right! Google it. That’s what I did when I first realized that I need to learn digital marketing to deliver great content and great applications. So, I’ve started with free tutorials and lessons. That was so great, I’ve got better every day, but once I stuck, I wouldn’t be able to find a curated content from great teachers. That’s when I’ve decided to take the Udacity DMND program.
Now I’m just about the 1/3 of the program, but I’ve learned about marketing basics, content marketing, SMM, SMA, and more will come like SEO, SEM, email marketing, etc. That’s the best thing when you know how to market your application (or anything) and measure the impact, analyze the results and iterate over it.
