Ten Things That Make Me Happy
‘It’s the little things in life’
Happy Easter Monday — the weather is beautiful, we’ve all eaten a silly amount of chocolate and are all pretty happy with our four day weekend.
Happiness is the positive or pleasant emotions ranging from contentment to intense joy in the context of mental or emotional state. The brain is responding to a pleasure stimulus and then releases chemicals which make us feel good. There are too many things to mention that make any individual happy, a holiday, a new bag, spending time with family, a lie in, or a plate of food! The passion and excitement we gain from certain things, people, and experiences is what makes every individual unique in their own special way. There are so many things to be thankful for in a world where at the moment there is so much negativity.
Happiness means a lot of different things to a lot of different people. Have you ever sat back and really thought what makes you happy. For me, it’s all about the small things. I think its a great grounding exercise and a perfect time out opportunity to reflect and feel positive. Some days I can feel so overwhelmed with my to-do list and what needs to be done, it’s nice to have a list to reference and remind me to stop for a second, sit back and think about the smallest of things that bring a smile to my face. It’s so easy to take things for granted and I want to encourage you in this post to think about the things that make you happy.
Here are my top ten:
- Getting into bed with fresh sheets after a long day
- Laughing so hard it hurts
- Singing loudly in the car
- Pretty lights in the darkness
- Learning something new
- Travel and adventures. Going somewhere or doing something I’ve never done before
- Having a meaningful conversation with somebody
- The smell of Bleu de Chanel — it reminds me of my favourite person
- Elephants. Baby elephants. Elephant noises. Videos of elephants. Pictures of elephants
- All types of sweets — especially pic n mix. I have such a sweet tooth
What makes you happy?
I want you to make a short list of ten of the things that make you happy — keep it somewhere accessible where you can refer to it when you’re not feeling the best. It will give you the little boost you need just when you may need it the most.
