‘when you let go, you create space for better things to enter your life’

Tomorrow is the final day of 2020 and what a year it has been. Totally unexpected and the biggest curve ball that many of us have ever faced in our lifetime. Not only that but this year has flown by so so quickly. Blink and it’s gone.

Before we aim to move forward into a new year, it is important to close the door on things that could hold you back and remind you of the rollercoaster year that has been 2020. Letting go is an act of incredible power.

The New Year, despite continued restrictions and the same amount of uncertainty that we have faced this year is a great opportunity to hit the re-set button and start fresh.

This isn’t me saying ‘new year new me’, or stressing yourself out with lots of resolutions but entering the new year with a fresh or clean slate can be quite refreshing. With the new year approaching imminently comes the inevitable time to leave things in the past.

Take a deep breath and let it go…

Here are ten things to leave in 2020…

  1. Dwelling on the past and worrying about the future — letting go of the regret of things we did in our past, things we didn’t do or even stressing about the future is a waste of negative and nervous energy. See your journey as a learning curve. Focus on living in the moment and being present
  2. Comparisons — this one is classic and one which you’ll probably have heard time after time. The only person you should be comparing yourself to is yourself
  3. Trying to control everything— this year has been clear in showing us that we cannot control everything. The only thing we can control is ourselves…
  4. Feeling like you need to be ‘busy’ all the time — I think Lockdown 1.0 taught us that we are guilty glorifying ‘busy’. We see being busy as a good thing, to establish ourselves and how hard we work. However being too busy and unnecessarily busy means you’re asking for a burn out! Chill out, relax, put your feet up… it’s allowed!
  5. Keeping your feelings bottled up — this isn’t good for anyone. Those around you or yourself. No matter what you feel, they are always valid because you’re feeling them
  6. Trying to do everything alone — asking for help is not illegal, nor is it a bad thing. Do it more often! It can really lighten your load
  7. Ignoring the small things — this year we have been stripped back to the basics. Family, friends, staples in the kitchen, hugs, nature and even a walk outside have become what has become important
  8. The fear of the unknown — embrace the unknown!
  9. Those that don’t bring the best out in you — easier said that done but cutting people from your life who anger you, make you feel negative or drained are no good for you. Unfollow them if they are on social media but if it’s real life, distance yourself if necessary
  10. Doubting yourself — knowing your worth and reminding yourself that you are truly special, unique, enough and worthy is important. There is no one in this world like you and you can do and achieve anything you put your mind to

Is there anything that you are planning to let go of in the next few days, ready to start a clean slate in 2021. Life really is what you make it!
