An end-to-end reliable and secure connection to real-world data is a key factor in fundamentally re-imagining the capabilities of smart contracts and decentralized applications of all kinds. Utilizing the Chainlink network of decentralized oracles, this connection is what Honeycomb aims to facilitate, providing smart contract developers with access to a wide array of premium APIs, ready to be integrated into real-world connected, decentralized applications.

To expedite the uptake of this new and groundbreaking technology, as well as to create inspiring examples of the types of applications now possible, today we are proud to announce our very own hackathon. Open for smart contract developers the world over through the Devpost hackathon platform and including over $12k in prizes, the Honeycomb Smart Contract Hackathon is a 3-week event focused on discovering new and innovative ways to connect smart contracts to real-world data, producing outcomes that create value in the real world.

What Should You Build?

The rules of the competition are simple: Create an application that makes you excited about the future of real-world connected smart contracts and decentralized applications, and use any one, or any combination of Honeycomb-listed APIs to create this innovative application. All submissions need to include a state change that is executed by a data input from at least one Honeycomb-listed API through at least one Chainlink oracle.

Both mainnet and testnet submissions are allowed, and Honeycomb provides developers with free access to API test calls through a Ropsten testnet oracle. The hackathon starts on Wednesday, November 20th at 3pm ET, and submissions need to be sent in for judging by Wednesday, December 11th at 11pm ET.

Prizes

The prize pool for the Honeycomb Smart Contract Hackathon consists of cash prizes for the top 3 submissions as decided by the event judges, a special Judge’s Choice award, awarded in LINK tokens and selected by Dan Forbes of Chainlink, and additional cash and product bounties from our data provider sponsors, including World Weather Online and Tatum Blockchain API.

Some of the prizes:

Honeycomb Smart Contract Hackathon Top 3:
1st Place — $3,000
2nd Place — $2,000
3rd Place — $1000

Judge’s Choice by Chainlink: 3 x $1000 in LINK

World Weather Online Challenge — For the best smart contract implementation of the World Weather Online API
1st Place — $1000
2nd Place — $750
3rd Place — $500

Tatum Blockchain API — The best use of Tatum Blockchain API receives a 6-month Developer Plan (400k API calls/month, 20 API calls/s) worth $954. All submissions that include an integration of the Tatum Blockchain API receive a 3-month Idea Plan (200k API calls/month, 10 API calls/s), worth $237.

In addition to the aforementioned prizes, selected data provider sponsors will be providing contestants with additional prizes and swag for the use of their APIs. Stay tuned for announcements.
