Bold, visionary leaders to address Co_Invest Cleantech, the annual gathering for leadership in business and sustainable technology innovation

Inaction is not an option. Trying the same things over and over again isn’t going to work.

The latest U.N. Climate report noted an astounding 37 billion tons of carbon dumped into the atmosphere every year as a result of human activities. The effects have been and will continue to be catastrophic for life on this planet.

As Wally Broecker, the legendary Columbia University geochemist who coined the phrase “global warming,” famously said, “The climate system is an angry beast, and we are poking it with sticks.”

The modern growth economic engine that powers nation-states and multinational corporations, and incidentally is powered on the burning of fossil fuels, is a large fast-moving train that’s been speeding along on auto-pilot since the Industrial Revolution.

To reverse course we need strong, bold, visionary leaders across the spectrum of business, policy, science, and communication — and to foster communities of professionals dedicated to building coalitions that mutually benefit partners and ensure environmental security.

Luckily, those communities and leaders have emerged — and Clean Energy Trust is proud to convene the annual Co_Invest Cleantech event to continue driving business solutions to climate change.

This year, the 3 women joining us as featured keynote speakers are leaders who have dedicated their careers to pushing boundaries and standing up to status quo norms to drive the business world on climate change.

Mindy Lubber

Mindy Lubber has been on the front lines of building business coalitions around climate change for decades. Through her efforts, she has built up enormous capacity and leadership within the private sector to be proactive on climate solutions. You may recall that there was overwhelming support among the business community for the historic Paris Climate Agreement? Mindy was instrumental in organizing that movement and recently recognized as a “Climate Warrior” by Vogue Magazine for her efforts.

At the 15th annual U.N. Investor Summit on Climate Risk in 2018, an event which she co-founded and hosted, she said, “We need change. We need it now. It needs to be bolder. It needs to be faster. It needs to be bigger.”

Jennifer Rumsey

Jennifer Rumsey is the Chief Technical Officer of Cummins Inc, one of the world’s largest manufacturers of engines and propulsion equipment. She is the first female to be in the CTO role for Cummins — a fact of which she is proud but also fond of noting, “I know I won’t be the last one.”

Not only is she breaking the glass ceiling for her fellow female engineers, but she is pushing the 100-year old propulsion equipment manufacturer on how to continue building linkages between business growth and emission reduction.

“What we can do in the engine itself and optimize combustion of the engine to make it cleaner has been amazing. We’ve leveraged advanced computation technology and analysis tools to actually reduce emissions.”

Dr. Pratima Rangarajan

Dr. Pratima Rangarajan is the CEO of OGCI Climate investments, a new $1B investment fund from the major oil and gas companies in the world. She is the primary executive charged with delivering on the fund’s mission, “creating positive outcomes in the reduction of climate change.”

With so much money to deploy, she is able to lead an investment field still quantifying impact metrics against financial returns. She says, in no uncertain terms, “We will truly be successful only when we can show our investments have lowered greenhouse gas impact of industrial and energy sectors.”
