Introducing a new program to connect clean technology innovators with sustainability leaders seeking to reduce their emissions.

The CleanBC Industry Fund and Foresight Cleantech Accelerator have teamed up to provide a unique solution for B.C. industry to reduce emissions. Foresight is pioneering a novel challenged-based approach to improving pilot project outcomes for industry, innovators and government.

Many companies want to meet or exceed Canada’s emissions reductions targets while at the same time becoming more efficient and profitable. This is the global challenge of our time. Smaller companies may not have internal research and innovation departments. They may not be connected into the dynamic and evolving cleantech ecosystem. Entrepreneurs, new ideas, and innovations can come from anywhere. It is critical to connect these sparks of innovation with the sources of demand that can help them grow.

The program works with B.C. industrial operations that have facilities that emit over 10,000 tons CO2e a year and report those emissions to the province. Foresight teams work with them to articulate the emissions reducing goals they are trying to achieve. Our experts crystallize this work into a ‘challenge’ that can be presented to our network of companies. As the largest pool of cleantech expertise in western Canada, Foresight can deliver a unique ‘snapshot’ of the sector for industry.

Here’s how it works:

The process is divided into three phases: recruit, assess and finalize.

  • Recruitment is where we identify industry partners that want to achieve their goals, crystallize a challenge, and share it with our networks.
  • Assessment is where we collect submissions from our networks and work with our industry partners to develop a picture of the current industry state of play.
  • Finalization involves a deep-dive with the most comprehensive proposals. Ideally we all discover a ‘match’ that can then apply for funding from the BC Industry Fund.

Just like that, government, industry and innovators team up to reduce BC’s emissions and grow our economy. We hope you’ll follow along as the 2020 challenge process unfolds.

We have some incredible challenges lined up for this year. Subscribe to the Foresight mailing list for follow Foresight on Twitter to register for them as they are announced over the coming weeks.
